Flower Art Dupe

I have had these two paintings hanging in my dining room for a while now. I had gotten to the point where I was done with them and ready to move on. I was wondering about my local Pottery Barn store when I saw some art that caught my eye. It was so pretty and unique. But that price tag…. Girl, I could not do it. I have three kids, and the art funding is very limited in the Chateau VanStone. So what’s a girl to do???? What else then re-create it. I mean, really, you knew that was coming. Lucky for me, I had these two framed canvas prints hanging on my wall, waiting for an upgrade.

Tools:

New or used canvas. This is something you can thrift for or even find in the clearance art section to home goods or hobby lobby.

Fresh flowers multiple types.

Hot glue gun

Paint off white

Painters Tape

Wall putty

Flat wall spatula

Spray paint (I used shiplap by magnolia)

Start by covering any part you don’t want paint on; because I was using art that was already framed, I taped off the frame.

Next, I added the wall putty and used the spreader to cover the canvas. I did it so that it would add texture; it does not need to be perfect or even.

Let dry overnight.

When picking out flowers I looked for things that could lay flat. I used daffodils, firn, primroses, wax flowers, mini daisies and

Lay the flowers out on the canvas to see how to layer them and what height to cut them. You want them to stager at different lights.

Use the glue gun to glue the stems down in place.

I smash them down and bend them to where I want them to stay.

Once all the stems are in place, it's time to spray paint.

Lay the painting out on a drop cloth or cardboard.

Completely cover the flowers in the paint color of your choice.

Let dry and remove the tape

Pro tip:

Please don’t make the same mistake I made: make sure when you start your project, you have the canvas in an upright position. Because my old art was just a pattern, I did not have the back hooks at the top when I started, so when it came time to hang it on the wall, the hooks were on the wrong side. Que head in hands. Thankfully my handy husband was able to fix it.

Next it was back on the wall in my dining room. I absaloutly love the way these turned out and it cost me almost nothing. You can’t beat that.
