May Day Baskets

IMG_9784.jpg

I love spring; it always feels like a fresh start! After the gloom of winter, the brightness, warmth, and colors make me so happy. May Day is a holiday that has been celebrated for centuries to welcome the coming of spring. It was traditionally celebrated with a maypole, dancing, lots of flowers and of course Cake (one must always have cake to celebrate!!). As time went on it, became a tradition to surprise neighbors or loved ones with a May Basket full of flowers on their doorstep. We celebrate May Day every year, I love spreading that happy springtime feeling to our loved ones.

Fresh Flowers

I start by cutting my paper out into a 10 X 10 piece. I used scallop scissors to cut the top 2 sides to add a sweet little touch (because your girl is extra)!

With one corner pointed up, I pull the other two corners in towards each other to form a cone shape.

Glue down the front edge of the paper and flip it upside down. Press along the glued line to get it to stay in place.

Next, use the hole punch to make holes in both top sides of the cone for your ribbon.

Cut the ribbon to the desired length; mine is 18 in. Because the ribbon I used is textured, it did not need to be tied. You might need a little more ribbon if it needs to be knotted.

Trim the flowers to fit inside of the cone. If you think it may be a while until the recipient sees them, you can wrap a wet paper towel around the stems of the flowers and place them in a sandwich baggie inside the cone to keep the flowers from wilting.

The Kids and I attached cute little tags to our baskets so our neighbors would know they were from us.

Lastly, walk around your ‘hood and place them on your besties door, knowing you are a motherFing crafting badass!!!
