Spring Flower Glow Up

IMG_2405.jpg

I love the early months of spring when the weather first starts to change. Everyone in our neighborhood starts to emerge again after the long winter of being cooped up. The birds begin to chirp, and you can see signs of life everywhere. I always love to have fresh flowers in the house. I love how happy and warm they make it feel. Being that I can't keep real plants alive, fresh flowers is the next best thing. This modern take on traditional spring flowers is a fun way to celebrate the changing of seasons and brighten up the home.

I bought my vases for this arrangement at the dollar store. They are an inexpensive staple at my house. I love to have them on hand for flower arrangements and as a way to elevate flowers to give to friends. For one dollar, you can take a store-bought bouquet and make it look much more expensive by only adding a vase.

I go to my local supermarket and pick up a few different varieties of potted bulbs. I usually try to buy ones that have not yet started to bloom. I love the look of mixing tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths in the vases. My arrangement has nine vases, so I bought a few different pots of flowers, counting how many bulbs each one has. I will try to get 10-11 bulbs total, which gives a few extra if some are small, and one vase needs two bulbs.

I start at the sink with a trash can or large bowl, ready to catch the extra dirt. I will slowly remove the top layer of soil and break apart the bulb from the others. Once I have a bulb free, I will rinse it under cool water to remove all the remaining dirt. Then I will place it in my vase and add cool water to cover the top of the bulb. I will repeat this until I have rinsed and placed all of my remaining bulbs.

After a week or so, I will change out the water to help them stay fresh longer to maintain the bulbs. Once all of my flowers have bloomed, I will trim them down and keep the green stems and the plant’s bulb portion in the water. When I’m finished with my arrangement, I will empty the water, trim the bulbs’ tops and bottoms, and allow them to dry out for a day or two. I will store them in a cool, dry place until fall, when I will plant them outside in my flowerbed to bloom again next spring and continue enjoying. Something so simple but also unique to welcome in the new season.
