DIY Cowgirl Hat

I spent this last year on an unplanned concert tour. Most of what I went to was country concerts. Being from the PNW and raised by a cowboy (my Grandpa), I have always loved country music. My girlfriends and I had so much fun continually planning out outfits. The one thing that we could never seem to find was cute hats. You can't go to a country concert after concert, without a cowgirl hat. So as I'm sure it is no surprise, If you can't find it you make it. I found these hats but felt they were still not what I was looking for, and I wanted to make them my own. It was such an easy project, and I love how they turned out.

Tools:

Hats Pink Pink Blue Blue

1/2 yard fabric per hat

Fabric Glue

Small dried or artificial flowers

Hot glue

Fabric trim in 12mm

Pencile

Fabric Scissors

Start by laying the fabric out and placing the hat on top of it.

With the pencil, trace the outline of the hat on the fabric.

Cut the shape out of the fabric.

Place the hat upside down, lay the cut fabric on the hat, and trace the hole for the head.

You will be making a donut shape out of the fabric.

Once you have your shape somewhat sized, place it back on the hat and trim it until it fits on the underneath brim of the hat. (We will later trim out the edges of the fabric so you can not see the unfinished edges if it is not perfect)

Lay out your trim around the inside and outside the circle of the hat and cut to size.

Glue the inside ring of the hat with the fabric glue and place the fabric down.

Lay out your trim around the inside and outside the circle of the hat and cut to size.

Glue 1/2 around the outside brim of the hat and slowly apply the fabric trim. (I suggest starting in the back of the hat so the two seams don’t meet up in the front)

Continue around the outer rim of the hat, then repeat on the inside rim.

The hats I purchased came with a velvet ribbon around the outside. This is something that is easily interchangeable.

I placed some dried wheat and some artificial lavender in the ribbon on the outside of each hat.

I loved how theses turned out and had so much fun wearing my one of a kind hats to concerts.

Cheers Babes

XOXO
