Pressed Flower Art

It’s that time of year when all of my flowers (if they are not dead yet due to my lack of a green thumb and watering... ok its mostly watering) are starting to change colors. I have a row of the most beautiful hydrangea bushes in front of my house, and the blossoms are the prettiest shade of blue and purple. The art of pressing flowers has been around forever and is so simple. My grandmother bought me a pressed flower kit when I was a little girl. I remember having so much fun picking the flowers and watching them change after being pressed. So if my younger self could do it, so can you.

Tools:

Tackey Glue

Paintbrush

Parchment paper

Card Stock

Fresh flowers

Thick Books

Scissors

I started by walking out my front door to my garden. (That sounds much more sophisticated than it is)

I pick a pretty assortment of shapes and sizes. I also like to pick greens as well as flowers.

Once I have all my flowers I cut parchment to fit the page of the books.

The parchment should cover both sides of the book.

Place the flowers on the parchment paper on the inside of the book.

I try not to layer them so they don’t stick together once you press them.

Once you fill one page of parchment repeat on a different page until your all your flowers are gone.

Close the book and place it on the bottom of a larger stack of books, so the weight is holding down the book with the flowers in it. (coffee table books work great for this)

Let the flowers sit in the book for a week until they are dried out.

Once they are dry they are ready to use, They can be added to Cardstock and framed, to blank card or on top of gift wrap. There are truly so many options. (Grace just made a pennant for school and she wanted to use press flowers to decorate it)

For this project I wanted to frame some of the flowers.

I cut card stock to the size of my frame and arranged the pressed flowers on the card stock.

Once I know how I want them layed out I place some glue on a plate.

Using a small paint brush apply a little glue to the back of the pressed flower and place it down on the paper.

Once all the flowers are set also to dry and add to a frame.

Now you have beautiful and elegant art that was practically free!! Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am!!

Cheers Babes

XOXO
