Mexican Family Vaca - Sayulita 2022 Review

Living in the PNW, our family tries to escape the cold once a year with the hope of helping us warm up and survive the rest of winter. Our normal vaca spot is Hawaii; it's a closer flight for us, and no passports are needed. This year we decided to mix it up and try someplace new. My parents had been going to Puerto Vallarta for years and wanted to take a vacation with the whole fam. So off we went, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

When we started planning our trip, we knew we wanted to be in the Puerto Vallarta area. We traveled to Sayulita for day trips on previous family vacations and loved the laid-back small beach town. Due to the size of our party/family, we required a pretty large home and were able to find exactly what we needed at SayulitaLife. We rented the gorgeous beachfront property, Casa Illusion. The property managers were wonderful to work with and were very helpful with other suggestions throughout our stay. The house came with a large supply of filtered water, daily cleaning services, and most importantly (as my kids would say) the best pool/beach toys. We let the rental company know we had a baby with us ahead of time, and they provided a crib and a stroller.

We used Jose Ramos Transportation car service to travel from the airport in Puerto Vallarta to Sayulita. Our driver was very friendly and helpful. He even had a cooler full of cervezas waiting for us; it was greatly appreciated after traveling with three kids for 6 hours. We let them know we needed a car seat for our youngest, and they had it waiting for us when they picked us up both times. He allowed us to make one stop at the supermarket to pick up supplies for our trip and waited for us while we shopped.

Sayulita is a small town, so we no longer needed a car once we arrived at our rental. We could walk most places in town. We did rent a golf cart to help get around; I would highly recommend this! It was a lot of fun to cruise around, and it made daily trips into town with the kids super easy. On a side note, we took a small stroller for our youngest (who happened to be in a full leg cast at the time) to make it easier to get around. The streets are very bumpy and dusty in some spots, so we ditched it after the first day of trying to push it around. It was much easier to all hop in the golf cart than try to push the stroller. We got the largest cart they had (I believe it fits 8) and it fit us all (there were 10 of us). A little squished but we fit.

Now onto the best part, Food!!! Here are a handful of places we ate at and loved.

La Rustica- We ate here twice for lunch and once for dinner. The food was so yummy, and the service was great. It had a trendy vibe and a fun indoor-outdoor setting. The shrimp tacos and the pesto pasta were my favs. The Margaritas were also delish.

Bonito - This was right across from our rental. They had great coffee, breakfast, smoothies and juices.

El Itacate- This was a awesome taco shop downtown. The food was fresh and really flavorful. Im not gonna lie, i’m pretty sure we ordered one of everything!!

Le Camion- This was a cute little food truck right off the beach. It was perfect for afternoon lunch/snacks. Im also sure we ordered one of everything. The nachos and onions rings were a huge hit.

Bar Miramar- This cute beach side bar was next door to our rental. They had a large menu full of fresh and fruity drinks. If the red light was on they were open and we could walk to our fence line and order a cocktail (a dangerous option so close we were here multiple times a day). My favorite was the Pineapple, Ginger, Chili Marg.

Buonissimo- This was the best Ice cream shop. I think we were here once a day. We also ordered waffles and crepes that were sooooo good. They had tons of fun flavors to choose from.

Kahlo- This is where my family ate the first night they arrived, when our flight was canceled. They said the food was good and the atmosphere was fun. (I mean that sounds nice and all but I ordered room service from an airport hotel in Seattle so there’s that.)

Taco Al Pastor Talivan- This was a favorite late night eat if ya catch what I’m throwing down. The perfect end of night treat to help soak up all the margs.

Our main activities mainly included Eating, Drinking, and Swimming. We are not ready for big all-day outdoor excursions with three littles. But I did manage to sneak out and take a yoga class at the rose room open-air studio across from our rental. It was so relaxing and a nice treat. (when you are on vacation with three kids, any break is a true gift)

We truly loved our time there. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Sayulita is a sweet beach town and was the perfect destination for us. We will surely be back again.

Cheers Babes
