Pumpkin Flower Vase

IMG_8272.jpg

This is one of those craft projects that takes very little effort but makes a big statement!! A friend and I tried this a few years back and I loves the way it looked and how easy it was to put together. These centerpieces or arrangements are going to make you look like a pro horticulturist.

When putting together an arrangement in the spring-fall months, look for fun foliage in the yard to add to whatever you bought at the store. Not only is this a huge money saver, but it is also going to add things to your arrangement that people are not used to seeing. Que all your friends being terribly impressed with you!!

What you need….

1 medium sized pumpkin

1 glass or plastic vase sized to fit in the pumpkin

1 Wet foam brick

3 -4 bunches of flowers and greens. I used seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, roses and hydrangeas.

I wanted the arrangement to be more muted tones, so I picked out a white pumpkin and flowers. I added colors that had more of a silvery gray undertone to par with my flowers. I went out to my garden and picked some ornament grass, mint blooms, Virginia creeper, leaves, berries, and blue angel hosta.

The first few times I did this, I did not add a vase inside of my pumpkin. I think it helps the longevity of the pumpkin. If you change the water after six days you make it; your arrangement should last 10-12 days.

To make the arrangement, I cut off the top of the pumpkin and empty out the seeds. Place the vase inside the pumpkin and cut a foam block to fit inside the vase. Once that’s all set up, it’s time to start adding flowers. I like to start with whatever I have that is going to billow over the arrangement. In this case, it’s the Seeded Eucalyptus and the Virginia Creeper. Next, I add my filler flower that I have the most of, roses. I will fill in the top to make the arrangement look fuller and give it structure. Last I will add in what I have left in-between to fill out and make it look full. I like to add things with varying heights and textures to bring interest to my arrangement; ornamental grass and the mint did both. That's it… It’s that easy! Now you have a dining room centerpiece that is sure to impress all your friends. If not, you are already too impressive and they no longer notice..... or you need new friends.
