Fall Front Porch 101

Like most women in America, I love all things fall. As soon as it gets just a tad chilly, we jump right into all things pumpkin and cozy. I must admit if someone asks, "can you really ever have too many pumpkins"... clearly, the answer is No!! So after a busy and active summer, there is something so nice about the thought of slowing down, cozying up, and watching football. I like to change my porch out seasonally. One; I get bored with the same thing all the time, and two; I hate my flower boxes being empty. Nothing says "welcome's to my home" like a bunch of flowerpots full of dirt. Each season, I change out my flower beds and add a little extra to my porch to make it pop. To start this process, I go to my local hardware store and pick up various mums, cabbage, and kales to fill my beds. I usually try to stick to one or two colors of mums. This year I went with white and a light pink color. I love how the pink in the mums brings out the color in the middle of my cabbage. Next, I put up my wreath and garland. It's important to make sure they are made to be outside so they will hold up. I also have a handful of small flowerpots I have collected over the years. I like to add mums and cabbage to the flowerpots to mix in-between my Pumpkins. This is an inexpensive way to add some texture and color to your porch.

When picking out my pumpkins, I try to get a variety of shapes and sizes. I like my pumpkins to all have the same dusty and muted color. I also love to stack the pumpkins. I will look for a handful of flat pumpkins that can sit on top of each other. Because of this, I look like the "crazy lady at Trader Joes" who touches all the pumpkins out of the bin and tries to stack them. It's all for the cause folks... no one ever said pimpin was easy.

I finish off my porch with a new doormat and rug to freshen everything up. I will leave all of this up through Thanksgiving. The plants are hearty enough to withstand the cold. I love the curb appeal that this change gives to our home. It’s the perfect setting to welcome our guests. Now put your feet up, grab a hot toddy, and enjoy your pretty porch!

XOXO

Cheers Babes
